The day for the national "Space Day" is December 16th, in memory of the launch of the first Italian satellite named San Marco, 
which allowed Italy to become the third country - in terms of Space - in the world, after the United States and the Soviet Union. 
The satellite departed from the NASA base of Wallops Island, in the USA, on December 15, 1964.
